The Bernese Oberland is Swiss alpine scenery at its most concentrated — a line of 4,000-metre peaks above a network of mountain huts that makes multi-day traverses not just possible but genuinely comfortable.
The SAC hut system is the infrastructure that makes Swiss hiking special. Rifts between refuges, a hot meal waiting at the end of each stage, and views of the big three — Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau — from most ridges. It's the closest thing to luxury multi-day hiking.
The region rewards returning. Each valley has its own character, and the Jungfrau rail system connects high viewpoints that would otherwise require serious mountaineering. Grindelwald is the natural base, but stay further into a valley for fewer crowds.
