How to pick a direction when everything looks good

May 5, 2026 · 5 min read

Start with constraints, not destinations. How much time do you actually have? How far are you willing to travel? What kind of terrain makes you feel most alive?

Those three answers eliminate most of the world instantly — and that's a good thing. Constraints are what turn an overwhelming map into a short, exciting list.

From there, trust the first option that makes you lean forward. The feeling of 'oh, that one' is more reliable than any amount of comparison. Book the anchor pieces before the feeling fades.

You can always go somewhere else next time. The cost of a slightly-imperfect trip you actually take is far lower than the cost of the perfect trip you never do.
