The destination
Costa Rica punches above its size for adventure. An active volcanic belt down the spine, Pacific and Caribbean coasts on either side, and a conservation infrastructure that keeps the jungle genuinely wild.
Arenal's perfect cone is the symbol, but the adventure is spread across the whole country. Cloud forests at Monteverde, surfable Pacific points at Nosara and Santa Teresa, jungle river systems in the Osa Peninsula, and a Caribbean coast that operates at its own unhurried pace.
The country's small size is the gift — you can move between radically different environments within a few hours. Logistics are manageable even for independent travelers, and the local guiding infrastructure is strong.
