The destination
The East African coast — from Zanzibar and the Swahili stone towns to the Mozambican archipelago — offers some of the finest tropical island and coastal travel in the world, with the added layer of a rich maritime cultural history.
Zanzibar is the natural gateway: Stone Town's UNESCO lanes, spice plantations, and a north-coast snorkel scene. Pair it with any safari for a classic East Africa combination that covers the full spectrum of the region.
Further south, the Mozambican islands and Quirimbas Archipelago offer more remote and less-visited alternatives. Access is harder, but the reef systems are outstanding and the lack of mass tourism is the whole point.
