The destination
Tasmania is Australia's most concentrated outdoor destination — an island where ancient rainforest, dramatic mountain terrain, and world-class multi-day trails coexist within a few hours' drive of a genuinely excellent food and wine culture.
The Overland Track is the flagship: six days from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair, through dolerite peaks, alpine moorland, and ancient pencil pine forests. The season runs November–April with capped numbers; huts are comfortable and well-maintained.
Beyond the Overland, Tasmania delivers Freycinet's Wineglass Bay circuit, the Bay of Fires coastal walk, and MONA's subterranean museum in Hobart. It punches well above its size and rewards giving it proper time.
What works here
Multi-day trail walks, Ancient forest, Island adventure with excellent food. Best seasons: November–April for the Overland Track; Freycinet year-round.
