The briefing

Why this one

Georgia is the most underpriced adventure destination in Europe's neighbourhood. The combination of serious high-mountain terrain, genuinely ancient culture — Svaneti's defensive towers are a thousand years old — excellent food, and natural wine from clay amphora makes it unlike any other mountain destination on the continent.

Kazbegi's Gergeti Trinity Church on a ridge with Mount Kazbek behind it, the Svaneti tower village of Mestia surrounded by 4,000m peaks, a wine-cave tasting in Kakheti's Alazani Valley, and the Georgian Military Highway winding through gorges that Napoleon's engineers never cracked.

The rhythm

Dawn church hikes in the Kazbegi mist; marshrutka mountain roads to Svaneti; afternoon tower-house wine; Georgian feast evenings.

The energy

Ancient, rugged, and astonishingly welcoming.

The shape of it

Before you go

Mountain weather in the Caucasus changes extremely fast. The Chaukhi Pass and other high routes become dangerous in fog and sudden storms. Never attempt high routes alone and always carry layers far beyond what the morning temperature suggests.

Adventure Missions are planning inspiration, not real-time travel or safety guidance. Always verify weather, permits, closures, local regulations, and official conditions before you leave.
