The briefing

Why this one

Petra is one of humanity's greatest architectural achievements - and seeing the Treasury at first light, alone with just a torch and the sound of the Siq, is a genuinely rare experience.

Petra at dawn before the tour groups - the Siq, the Treasury, the High Place of Sacrifice - then Wadi Rum's vermillion desert by 4WD and camel, and Aqaba's Red Sea reef for the snorkelers.

The rhythm

Early Petra entrances before the heat; Wadi Rum noon stillness; star-filled Bedouin camp evenings.

The energy

Ancient, warm, and deeply beautiful.

Who it's for

History and landscape travelers who want the Middle East's most satisfying single-country itinerary.

When to go

March - May and September - November. Summer (June - August) is very hot in Petra and Wadi Rum. December - February is cold overnight in the desert.

Pack list
