The briefing

Why this one

Patagonia is the benchmark by which all mountain landscapes are eventually measured. The Torres at sunrise, after a pre-dawn hike through the boulder field, is one of the great moments available to the determined traveler.

The W-Trek through Torres del Paine - Mirador Las Torres at dawn, the Grey Glacier approach, Valle del Francés - then El Chaltén's Fitz Roy circuit and Ushuaia's Beagle Channel catamaran before the flight north.

The rhythm

Multi-day trail days with early starts; hut evenings of drying gear and good red wine; glacier mornings in the silence.

The energy

Elemental, demanding, and life-calibrating.

Who it's for

Serious multi-day trekkers and South America veterans who want to experience the continent's ultimate landscape.

When to go

November - March (Southern Hemisphere summer). December - February for best weather. November and March are shoulder months with fewer people and unpredictable wind.

Before you go

Patagonian wind is genuinely violent - sustained gusts of 100+ km/h are common and can knock a person down. Follow all ranger guidance. Carry comprehensive travel insurance with emergency evacuation.
