The briefing

Why this one

Manu Biosphere Reserve has the highest recorded biodiversity of any protected area on earth. The clay lick at dawn — hundreds of macaws and parrots descending to the riverbank simultaneously — is a spectacle that doesn't photograph properly and must be witnessed.

Tambopata's macaw clay lick at sunrise with hundreds of parrots and macaws descending at once, Manu's river oxbows for giant river otters, a canopy platform night above the jungle floor, and Cusco as the gateway before flying back into the Andes.

The rhythm

Pre-dawn wildlife walks; oxbow lake canoe mornings; canopy platform evenings; dinner by the river.

The energy

Humid, vivid, and biologically overwhelming.
